If you are an engineer, architect, lawyer, developer or planner you
will understand that every project requires detailed
knowledge of utility services and their location by way of a
desk study.
This Includes:
-
Gas Pipelines
-
Water Mains
-
Sewers
-
Telecommunications
-
Fibre Optics
-
Oil Pipelines
For an engineer carrying out the work on site it is imperative
that you have this information so that you may avoid these
features during excavation or drilling and are able to
organise redirection of a service.
Developers have to be aware that the building they are viewing
will be suitable for its intended use.
Architects and Lawyers may have to take into account immoveable below
surface features.
Environmental Consultants have to
be wary of utilities when carrying out borehole tests and
services can also form pathways for off or on site contaminant
migration.

What should you do?
It can be time consuming and frustrating for a person looking
at a new site as a search for potential underground features
is normally required:
You need to -
-
Collate a contact list of relevant utilities for that area
-
Write individual letters with site plans to each contact
-
Obtain separate purchase orders and cheques for purchasing
the utilities data
The problems are magnified if the site is in an unfamiliar
area. The contact list you use is out of date; requests and
cheques are sent to the wrong utility office, or a utility is
not contacted at all, or the project
contains multiple sites.
Each request then needs to be checked and collated on return
and any information not received will involve further chasing
by telephone or letter.
You become frustrated, the project can be delayed and costs
rise.
Additionally, it is an extremely
poor use of trained technical staff time to carry out this
sort of basic research.
How can you streamline this process?
Infrastructure Search
We feel your organisation would benefit significantly by
contracting out these potentially problematic tasks to a
specialist data provider. Groundwise’s Infrastructure Report
has been specifically created to make obtaining details of
utility services around a site a simple process and
therefore we hope to make your life easier.
For an Infrastructure Report of up to 15 hectares all you need
to do is send or fax a Groundwise Infrastructure Report Order Form and suitable Ordnance Survey (or similar
plan) of your site to us, using the contact details on the
form.
Click her to obtain a Groundwise Infrastructure Report Order Form
Please fill out the form with your details and the site
details.
TIP: To obtain information about your site location we
recommend using the following online mapping sites
www.streetmap.co.uk or
www.multimap.co.uk
Upon receipt of your order we will first check that the plan,
address and map coordinates are correct and then request
information from the relevant utility offices associated with
your site.
In our basic report we contact
over 30 information providers on your behalf, These can
include;
Local
Electricity Distributor, National
Grid, Energis,
TransCo Gas Plans and Records,
Cable &
Wireless,
NTL,
Telewest,
Local

Format
Groundwise will check and collate all information received
before forwarding the original copy to you using First Class

Turnaround
A report containing the majority of the site information can
be produced within 15 working days. We will chase up
information and follow up any new lines of enquiry as they
arise.
Fees
The fee for a site up to 15 hectares is £250 exc VAT and
disbursements.
Quotations
Sites above 15 hectares or linear sites of more than 1km e.g.
rail or pipelines will require a quotation.
Therefore
please contact us or fax a Priority
Instruction Form together with a suitable Ordnance Survey
(or similar plan) noting on the Priority Instruction Form that
you require a quotation.
Discounts
We can apply a discount to
companies that offer projects that meet certain requirements
ie large sites, multi site orders, Linear sites over 1km or
frequent user
please contact us to discuss further.
